Juzgadoras electas por voto reciben primeras demandas de amparo por examen en la UNAM

The news article details a legal situation involving the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) regarding the cancellation of a recent admission exam due to detected irregularities. Two judges, Verónica Yessel Beltrán Murguía and Adriana Judith Uribe Vidal, have received the first amparo (a type of legal protection in Mexican law) applications related to this matter.
A candidate who successfully passed the exam has challenged the UNAM's announcement and related instructions for the selection process for the 2026 academic year, claiming issues with the online examination platform and allegations of cheating using artificial intelligence. The candidate seeks to enroll in the law program but has faced refusal from UNAM to accept her documentation for registration. Judge Beltrán Murguía is currently reviewing this claim, requiring the candidate to clarify her demands within five days, or else her case will be dismissed.
Similarly, Judge Uribe Vidal has called for clarifications in two other cases where applicants are contesting the cancellation of the exam. The UNAM had previously cancelled the results for about 3,000 candidates (2% of those who took the exam) due to suspicions of cheating. This prompted protests from other students demanding a fair examination process and has led to lawyers offering their services for those affected by the cancellations.
As a response to the crisis, the UNAM announced plans for an in-person examination for around 58,000 candidates, including those who initially passed and those who achieved a qualifying score in previous selection processes. The rector of UNAM expressed regret for the situation, particularly for those who "were accepted cleanly" but would now need to retake the exam.
